New Chalk Painting Project

Late night posting at its finest!

Today has been a long but fun and creative one! I went down to Birmingham, Alabama to visit my sister and her husband to help them get settled in their townhouse since the stress of the wedding is over. I will be posting before and after transformations tomorrow after we finish the last details but I think it’s one of my finest pieces of work! The before pictures definitely sparked my OCD.. to say the least lol.

But anyways, the topic of this post is some of the chalk painting projects we did today. A small bookcase and an end table. The green color ties together perfectly with the rest of the room because the coffee table and rug have that olive green color incorporated into it. Tomorrows painting projects will be a table and chairs and a new headboard.

First, I sanded each piece and then used paper towels to rub off the excess dust and dirt. We also had a drop cloth down to protect the floors. Next we took our chalk paint and painted two coats evenly on the furniture. Last, I sanded down the bookcase to give it a more distressed and rustic look. You could also add a glossy or matte top coat/sealer but I personally don’t think it’s necessary (unless it’s on a surface you are eating on). And that’s it! Chalk painting furniture is that easy and gives a new look to old and outdated furniture!
